July 2025 Update: This project is hold, as Lake Tahoe Water levels have maintained high levels and the Tahoe Vista Boat Ramp is operational.
This project will dredge the marina portion of the Tahoe Vista Recreation Area boat launch to allow for boat ramp operation during low water years.
April 2024 Update: All permits have been received for this project and are valid for a minimum of three (3) years, expiring in 2026. The permits stipulate a work performance period between May 1st and October 31st as TVRA was determined to have marginal fish spawning habitat.
District staff is assessing the window for completion of dredging as it relates to peak use of the TVRA. Given the current snowpack and water level in Lake Tahoe, the NTPUD will operate the TVRA boat ramp for the Summer 2024 and Summer 2025 boating season without the need for dredging.
With higher water levels comes increased cost of dredging and littoral drift (movement of sand underwater), particularly over the winter months, which may re-establish a sand bar before the lake drops to a water level where the dredging benefits are realized. With that in mind, District staff have identified 2024 as the first opportunity to complete dredging that will maximize the value of the dredging, while also minimizing impacts on peak use of TVRA.
Estimated Construction Date: TBD
